The IL2985E low-power, galvanically isolated RS-485 differential bus transceiver from NVE offers data rate of 4Mbps and very low quiescent current, typically 2.4mA (IDD1Q+IDD2Q). The IL2985 series delivers at least 1.5V into a 54Ω load for excellent data integrity over long cables, and is also compatible with 3V power supplies. A unique ceramic/polymer composite barrier provides excellent isolation and virtually unlimited barrier life. This particular device uses NVE’s patented IsoLoop spintronic Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) technology and comes in a 0.3″ 16-pin SOIC package.
- Surface-mount low-power, galvanically isolated RS-485 transceiver
- 3V abd 5V power supplies
- Data rate of 4Mbps
- 7kV bus ESD protection
- Isolation of 2.5kVRMS
- Working voltage of 300VRMS
- Temperature range of −40°C to +85°C
- Typical common mode transiend immunity of 50kV/μs (30kV/μs minimum)
- Supports up to 32 nodes
- Thermal shutdown protection
- UL 1577 and VDE V 0884-10 pending; meets or exceeds ANSI RS-485 and ISO 8482:1987(E)
- 0.3″ 16-pin SOIC package
The IL2985 has current limiting and thermal shutdown features to protect against output short circuits and bus contentions that may cause excessive power dissipation, and also incorporate a “fail-safe if open” design, ensuring a logic high on R if the bus lines are disconnected or “floating.”
Typical applications for the IL2985 series include:
- Metering
- Battery-powered RS-485 nodes
- Factory automation
- Industrial control networks
- Building environmental controls
- Equipment covered under IEC 61010-1 Edition 3
